Car Maintenance
Moonglo Auto Mechanics offer routine tasks and inspections to keep your car running smoothly and prevent potential problems.
Monthly Checks:
- Inspect tire pressure and adjust as needed. Don’t forget the spare tire! Look for the recommended PSI on the sticker inside your driver’s side door or in your owner’s manual.
- Test all lights: headlights (high and low beam), taillights, brake lights, turn signals, and hazard lights. Have someone help you check the brake lights.
- Check engine oil level and top up if low. Refer to your owner’s manual for the correct type of oil.
Check coolant level in the reservoir and top up if low. Ensure the engine is cool before opening the radiator cap. - Inspect windshield wiper blades for cracks or damage and check windshield washer fluid level.
Every 3 Months or as Recommended by Manufacturer:
- Change engine oil and oil filter. The interval can vary based on the type of oil and your driving habits (check your owner’s manual, common ranges are 5,000 to 10,000 miles for synthetic oil).
- Inspect belts and hoses for cracks, leaks, or wear.
- Check car battery terminals for corrosion and ensure cables are tight.
Every 6 Months or as Recommended by Manufacturer:
- Rotate tires to ensure even wear.
- Check brake pads for wear. You might be able to see the pads through the wheel, or listen for squealing noises.
- Lubricate door hinges, latches, and hood/trunk hinges.
- Wax the vehicle to protect the paint.
Every Year or as Recommended by Manufacturer:
- Replace engine air filter. A dirty filter can affect fuel efficiency.
- Replace cabin air filter to ensure good air quality inside the car.
- Inspect brake fluid level and condition.
- Check power steering fluid level.
- Inspect suspension components (shocks, struts) for leaks or damage.
Seasonal Checks:
- Swap tires according to the season (winter/summer tires).
- Replace wiper blades if they are not cleaning the windshield effectively.
- Check antifreeze/coolant strength, especially before winter.
